June 15, 1999Bluegill are abundant in West Moore Lake, but are small. Lengths ranged from 3 to 8 inches, with an avergae of 4.5 inches, and only 15% over 6 inches.…

Bluegill are abundant in West Moore Lake, but are small. Lengths ranged from 3 to 8 inches, with an avergae of 4.5 inches, and only 15% over 6 inches. Northern pike are also abundant but small - lengths ranged from 12.5 to 19 inches. Other games species sampled in low numbers were largemouth bass, black crappie, and yellow perch.

June 17, 1988SPECIES PRESENT IN NUMBERS AT OR ABOVE STATEWIDE GILL NET MEDIANS WERE BLACK BULLHEAD, CHANNEL CATFISH, BLUEGILL, BLACK CRAPPIE, YELLOW PERCH, AND WAL…

SPECIES PRESENT IN NUMBERS AT OR ABOVE STATEWIDE GILL NET MEDIANS WERE BLACK BULLHEAD, CHANNEL CATFISH, BLUEGILL, BLACK CRAPPIE, YELLOW PERCH, AND WALLEYE. THESE SPECIES WERE ALSO ABOVE LOCAL MEDIANS IN NUMBER WITH THE EXCEPTIONS OF BLACK BULLHEAD AND BLACK CRAPPIE. TRAP NET CATCHES OF BLUEGILL WERE VERY HIGH. CATCH OF BLACK CRAPPIE WAS SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER THAN STATE AND LOCAL MED- IANS. LARGEMOUTH BASS WERE OF AGES I, II AND III; GROWTH WAS SEEN AS FAST. WALLEYE WERE AGE II, THE RESULT OF STOCKING IN FALL 1986 AFTER CHEMICAL REHABILITATION. THEIR GROWTH WAS AVERAGE. NATURAL REPRODUCTION OF BLUEGILL WAS SEEN AS EXCELLENT.

BLACK BULLHEAD, PUMPKINSEED, AND HYBRID SUNFISH WERE FOUND AT ABOVE LOCAL MEDIAN LEVELS. BROWN BULLHEAD, BLUEGILL, AND BLACK CRAPPIE WERE SAMPLED AT LOW LEVELS. BLACK BULLHEADS DOMINATE THE FISH POPULATION OF WEST MOORE LAKE. AT LEAST SOME OF THE BLUEGILLS AND THE BLACK CRAPPIE ARE THE RESULT OF STOCKED FISH MOVING TO THE WEST BASIN FROM EAST MOORE LAKE WHICH HAS BEEN MANAGED AS A CHILDRENS FISHING POND.
