Ellison (Eilertson) Lake is a 52-acre lake located in western Becker County. Because much of the lake is shallow, Ellison Lake is subject to occasional winterkills. Property owners reported dead fish in the spring of 2023. A targeted fisheries survey was conducted in May 2023 to assess the severity of the winterkill. Dead fish of all species were observed while surveying. Trap nets only captured Black Bullhead, and they were not abundant. Bullheads had an average length of nine inches. Ellison Lake appears to have experienced a significant winterkill for Bluegill, Black Crappie, Northern Pike, and Largemouth Bass during the 2022-2023 winter. As a result, Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, and Black Crappie were reintroduced during 2023. Despite these stockings, it will take several years to have quality angling opportunities in Ellison Lake.
