Springer Lake is located about three miles north of Cromwell, Minnesota but has no developed public access. The 2024 standard survey was the first recorded visit by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources section of Fisheries on the lake. Springer Lake is a small but deep lake with a maximum depth of over 50 feet. The majority of the shoreline is composed of bog vegetation with the upland shoreline located on private land. It may be possible to access the lake traveling up the ditched stream and outlet channel. The Northern Pike gill net catch was within the expected range compared to other similar lakes. Quality angling opportunities exist for pike as the average length was 24.3 inches with the largest measuring 34.5 inches. Black Crappie and Bluegill also provide some angling opportunities. The Black Crappie trap net catch was within the expected range compared to similar lakes. The average length of Black Crappie from all gear types was 6.9 inches but few fish were over nine inches long. Seven-year classes were present suggesting consistent recruitment. Bluegill abundance of 11.0 per trap net was within the expected range compared to similar lakes. The average length was 4.6 inches and five fish were over 7.5 inches long. All year classes from 2017-2023 were represented indicating consistent recruitment.
