INTRODUCTORY WAE STOCKING HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN ESTABLISHING A POPULATION OF WAE IN THIS LAKE. THE WAE CATCH WAS BELOW AVERAGE FOR LAKES OF THIS ECOLOGICAL CLASS, BUT FAIRLY GOOD CONSIDERING THERE HAS BEEN NO RECRUITMENT SINCE THE LAST STOCKING IN 1988. WAE RANGED FROM 18 TO 21 IN, AND WERE ALL SURVIVORS OF THE 1986 AND 1987 FRY STOCKINGS. GROWTH OF AGE IV WAE HAD BEEN FAST, WITH THESE FISH AVERAGING 18.2 IN AT LAST ANNULUS FORMATION, COMPARED TO THE COOK COUNTY MEAN OF 13.6 IN. WAE SHOULD BE MATURING SOON, AND THE NEXT ASSESSMENT SHOULD BE ABLE TO DETERMINE WHETHER ANY NATURAL REPRODUCTION OCCURS. GSF, SMB, AND WAE HAD NOT BEEN PREVIOUSLY COLLECTED IN THIS LAKE. WAE WERE INTRODUCED IN 1986-1988. SMB WERE PROBABLY PRESENT EARLIER, SINCE THEY WERE FOUND IN ROVE LAKE IN 1978. ROVE LAKE AND WATAP LAKE ARE CONNECTED BY A BROAD CHANNEL, AND FISH CAN EASILY MOVE BETWEEN LAKES.
July 7, 1978There is a very large population of Perch and an average population of Suckers present. SM Bass are present but were not taken in the nets.
There is a very large population of Perch and an average population of Suckers present. SM Bass are present but were not taken in the nets.
