July 23, 1990WAE ABUNDANCE WAS GOOD, BUT AVERAGE SIZE WAS SMALL WITH NONE OVER 16 IN COLLECTED. THE 1987 AND 1988 YEAR CLASSES WERE STRONGLY REPRESENTED, COMPRISIN…
WAE ABUNDANCE WAS GOOD, BUT AVERAGE SIZE WAS SMALL WITH NONE OVER 16 IN COLLECTED. THE 1987 AND 1988 YEAR CLASSES WERE STRONGLY REPRESENTED, COMPRISING 57 AND 29% OF THE WAE COLLECTED, RESPECTIVELY. GROWTH OF AGE II WAE WAS GOOD FOR COOK COUNTY. NOP ABUNDANCE WAS HIGH FOR LAKES OF THIS TYPE, BUT AVERAGE SIZE WAS SMALL; NO FISH OVER 22 IN WERE COLLECTED. SMB ABUNDANCE WAS VERY LOW AND SIZES WERE SMALL. YEP WERE VERY ABUNDANT AND SIZE WAS GOOD. THE PERCH POPULATION PROVIDED A GOOD FORAGE BASE AS WELL AS CATCHABLE SIZED FISH FOR ANGLERS.

Little Gunflint Lake has good populations of N Pike and SM Bass. Also Pumpkinseed Sunfish which are usually small sized. Suckers and Perch, forage fish, are present in good numbers. Walleye samples were small but spawning fish from Gunflint Lake provides good early spring fishing.
