Marsh Lake is essentially a wide spot on the Temperance River. It supports fisheries for northern pike and yellow perch. Northern pike were present in fairly high numbers in 2007; however, most of the fish taken in assessment gear were small (under 20 inches), as has usually been the case in this lake. Yellow perch abundance was average, but their size was above average. Most of the yellow perch collected were over eight inches in length. A few walleye were present, but probably not enough to provide a fishery. Although none were collected in the 2007 assessment, it was likely that some smallmouth bass could also be found in this lake, since they are common in lakes above it in the watershed.

The northern pike catch in 2000 was low for this type of lake, but it was similar to catches observed in the past on this lake. Northern pike as old as age 6 were taken, but growth rates were slow and the fish were generally small.Yellow perch and white sucker catches were within the normal range for the lake class; however, the yellow perch catch was the lowest observed to date on this lake. The low catch appeared to be the result of the failure of some recent year classes; all of the perch taken in 2000 were more than four years old. The good average size observed for perch in this assessment was due to the lack of smaller, younger fish that would normally have been present. The attempt to introduce walleye in this lake, through stocking of fry in the mid 1980's, apparently failed. No walleye were taken in 2000.

WAE ABUNDANCE WAS POOR; THE ATTEMPT TO INTRODUCE WAE TO THIS LAKE VIA FRY STOCKING HAS APPARENTLY FAILED. NOP ABUNDANCE WAS LOW FOR LAKES OF THIS TYPE AND THE AVERAGE SIZE WAS SMALL. BOTH ABUNDANCE AND SIZE OF NOP APPEAR TO HAVE DECLINED SINCE THE 1972 ASSESSMENT. NOP GROWTH WAS AVERAGE FOR COOK COUNTY. YEP ABUNDANCE WAS HIGH AND SOME FISH OVER 10 IN WERE PRESENT. WHITE SUCKER WERE ALSO ABUNDANT. BOTH SPECIES ARE PRESENT IN NUMBERS AND SIZES TO PROVIDE A GOOD FORAGE BASE FOR NOP
