Richey Lake was used historically as a Walleye rearing pond until production was stopped following the 2018 season. Fry stocked into the lake would grow throughout the summer and be harvested in the fall as fingerling sized fish to be stocked into other area lakes to enhance recreational fishing opportunities. Occasionally some fish would survive over winter and continue to grow in subsequent years. If these fish survived for multiple seasons they would occasionally grow to a size of interest to anglers. A survey was completed in August of 2023 to determine if any successful Walleye reproduction had occurred since the lake was last used as a rearing pond. No Walleye were captured suggesting no reproduction has occurred recently. There may still be a few larger Walleye in the lake from the last fry stocking, but none were sampled in 2023. Currently the lake provides limited fisheries opportunities for anglers. Managers will need to decide how to manage the lake into the future.

Richey Lake is a Walleye rearing pond in the Finland Fishery Management Area about 8 miles northwest of Schroeder. The lake is mainly used by the public in the fall for duck hunting. A zooplankton survey was performed on August 14, 2018 by making three 100-foot long horizontal hauls with a 26 cm diameter net made of about 150 micron mesh over the deepest point in the lake. The purpose of the survey was to gather baseline information about zooplankton species present, density and to check for the presence of zebra mussels, spiny water flea, and other aquatic invasive species. No aquatic invasive species were identified.
