Ann Lake is a 46 acre lake located one mile south of Deerwood in Crow Wing County. Ann has a maximum depth of 46 feet. Ann Lake has no public access, the fisheries survey crew accessed through a private landowner. Ann was surveyed June 4-6, 2025, with two gill nets and four trap nets to assess fish populations and provide angler information. Northern Pike had a gill net catch of 6.0/net. Fish ranged from 11.2 to 31.7 inches with an average of 22.0 inches. Northern Pike in the protected 22-26 inch slot made up 33% of the catch with 8% over 26 inches in length. Growth was good compared to area lakes. Five year classes were sampled with 55% of the catch three year olds from the 2022 year class. Anglers should have good angling opportunities, but should limit harvest of larger Northern Pike especially on smaller lakes like Ann. Anglers should have a good chance of catching quality sized panfish in Ann. Trap nets had a Black Crappie catch of 2.8/net. Only one fish was sampled in gill nets. Black Crappies ranged from 5.7 to 10.9 inches and had an average length of 9.5 inches. Black Crappie at least 8 inches in length made up 75% of the catch. Bluegill had a trap net catch of 6.5/net. Fish ranged from 2.2 to 9.5 inches with an average of 7.3 inches. Bluegill at least 7 inches in length made up 77% of the catch, with 35% at least 8 inches. Eight year classes were sampled with nine year old fish from the 2016 year class making up 32% of the catch. Largemouth Bass are plentiful in Ann and should provide good angling opportunities. Fish ranged from 5.6 to 15.5 inches with an average of 11.4 inches. Largemouth Bass at least 12 inches in length made up 47% of the catch. Other fish sampled included Bowfin (Dogfish), Hybrid Sunfish, Pumpkinseed, and Yellow Bullhead.

Northern pike and bluegill net catches indicate above average population levels. These two species catch rates exceeded the third quartile of the area median for lakes of less than 230 acres with a total alkalinity of less than 47.6 ppm within the Brainerd management area. Pumpkinseed and largemouth bass net catches show average population levels with net catches between the first and third quartile of the area median. Black crappie exhibited below average population levels with catch rates below the first quartile of the Brainerd area median. Northern pike density appeared to be high with gill net catches greater than the third quartile. The northern pike ranged in size from 16.4 to 28.0 inches with a mean weight sampled of 2 lbs. Age classes 3-7 were represented in the net catches with growth rates slightly below average. The yellow bullhead population density appears high with gill net catches above the third quartile of the region 3 median. The mean weight at capture was 0.8 pound/fish. The bluegill population is high. Ages 3-11 were sampled. Growth rates were slow when compared to state averages. The largemouth bass population density appears average. Only six fish were sampled. Growth rates appear to be slightly below average compared to statewide growth rates. Black crappie population density appears low from the net catches. Black crappie growth rates were above when compared to state averages.
