Fawn Lake is a 60 acre lake in west-central Crow Wing County, just north of the city of Nisswa. It has a maximum depth of 40 feet. There is no public access directly on the lake, but access may be gained via channel that connects to Edna Lake. Northern pike is the primary management species. A standard survey was conducted the week of June 15, 2015. The northern pike catch rate for this survey was 11.5/ gill net, which is above average for lakes similar to Fawn. The average size of these fish was 23.4" with fish up to 31.9" measured. Nearly 48 percent were 24" or longer. In order to improve and maintain the northern pike population, anglers are encouraged to harvest smaller northern pike and release the larger ones. Bluegill catch rate was 44.3/trap net, which is above average for lakes like Fawn. The average size was 5.9" with the largest bluegill sampled measuring 7.8". Only about 15 percent were 7" or larger. Black crappie may be an option for anglers as well. The catch rate was 1.7/trap net. This is slightly more than the average for similar lakes. The average length was 8.5" and the largest was 9.4". Largemouth bass are also available to anglers of Fawn Lake. Typically largemouth bass don't sample well with gill nets and trap nets and only 3 were sampled in this survey. Anecdotal reports from anglers suggest that there are quality sized largemouth bass in Fawn Lake. There were 2 walleyes that were also sampled in this survey. Although walleyes are not stocked directly into Fawn, they most likely entered the lake via channel from Edna Lake. Edna receives walleye fingerlings every third year. Other fish species sampled include hybrid sunfish, pumpkinseed, rock bass, and yellow bullhead.

Fawn lake is a 60 acre lake about two miles north of Nisswa, Minnesota. There is a DNR owned public access in Edna Lake, which is connected to Fawn Lake via a wide channel. The lake has moderately hard water and moderate phosphorous fertility. Water clarity is 9.8 feet, a value considered good for this area. About 46% of the lake is less than 15 feet deep. Shallow water soils are predominantly muck but sufficient amounts of sand-gravel soils are also present. The bulrush beds present provide preferred spawning habitat for bass and panfish species, while wild rice beds provide spawning habitat for northern pike. The submergent plants grow to a depth of about 15 feet and provide important fish cover and feeding areas for a variety of fish species.Northern pike was the most abundant gamefish species sampled in 1999 netting. Compared to other similar type lakes, northern pike were caught in average numbers. Average size was 2.7 pounds. Although not considered to be a classic walleye lake, walleye have been periodically stocked in adjoining Edna Lake and were sampled in Fawn Lake in 1999 in average numbers. Largemouth bass were caught in average numbers in 1999.Bluegills were the most abundant panfish, their numbers being high when compared to similar type lakes, and to the 1994 survey, but not as high as the past nets. About 18% of the bluegills were 7.0 inches or more in length. Pumpkinseed were also present in high numbers in Edna Lake.No yellow perch were sampled in 1999 and tullibees were found in low numbers. Both species are important food sources for the lake's gamefish species. Yellow bullheads were also present in average numbers compared to similar type lakes.

The lake has moderately-hard water and moderate phosphorus fertility. Water clarity is good for the area. About 46% of the lake is less than 15 feet deep. Shallow water soils are predominately muck but significant amounts of sand-gravel soils are also present. The bulrush beds present provide preferred spawning habitat for bass and panfish species, while wild rice beds provide spawning habitat for northern pike. The submergent plants grow to depth of about 15 feed and provide important fish cover and feeding areas for a variety of fish species.Northern pike was the most abundant gamefish species sampled in the 1994 netting. Compared to similar type lakes, northerns were caught in "average" numbers. Fish up to age 8 were sampled and growth was good. Aberage size was 2.6 lbs.. Walleyes have been periodically stocked in adjoining Edna Lake but were not sampled in Fawn Lake in '94. Largemouth bass were caught in "average" numbers in '94.Bluegills were the most abundant panfish and their numbers were "high" compared to similar type lakes, but not as high as in past nettings. Bluegills to age 11 were found and growth was slow. About 9% of the bluegills were 7.0 inches or more in length. Pumpkinseeds were also present in "high" numbers. Black crappies were caught in "average" numbers, although they were found in "high" numbers in Edna Lake.Yellow perch and tullibees were found in "average" numbers. Both species are important food sources for the lake's gamefish species. Yellow bullheads were also present in "average" numbers compared to similar type lakes.
