THE PRESENT FISH POPULATION IS DOMINATED BY BLHS AND SMALL CEN. ONLY BLGS WERE SAMPLED ABOVE ALL MEDIAN LEVELS FOR BOTH GEAR TYPES. CAPTURED BLGS AVERAGED 7.86 FISH PER POUND AND EXHIBITED A CALCULATED PSD=16.7%. CARP, BLC, AND YEB WERE SAMPLED BELOW MEDIAN LEVELS FOR TRAPNETS. PMK WERE SAMPLED BELOW MEDIAN LEVELS FOR TRAPNETS, BUT ABOVE THE MEDIANS FOR GILLNETS. BLB WERE SAMPLED IN THE SECOND HIGHEST ABUNDANCE AND ABOVE MEDIAN LEVELS FOR GILLNETS, BUT BELOW LOCAL MEDIAN LEVELS FOR TRAP NETS. OTHER SPECIES SAMPLED, BUT IN LOW ABUNDANCE, INCLUDE NOP, WTS, GOS, HSF, GSF, AND LMB. LMB SHOWED AVERAGE GROWTH FOR THE AGE 1+ INDIVIDUALS SAMPLED AND YOY BASS WERE SAMPLED DURING SHORELINE SEINING. SAB WERE CAPTURED FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE FISH SURVEYS BEGAN IN 1960. THE ONLY FISH SPECIES SAMPLED IN SWEENEY'S TWIN THAT WAS NOT CAPTURED IN SWEENEY LAKE WAS GOS. WHC AND YEP WERE SAMPLED IN SWEENEY LAKE, BUT NOT IN SWEENEY'S TWIN.

NUMBERS OF FISH CAUGHT IN ALL NET SETS WERE LOW DUE TO THE BANK STEEPNESS WHICH MADE IT DIFFICULT TO SET NETS EFFICIENTLY. SPECIES CAUGHT AT ABOUT THE LOCAL MEDIAN WERE: NORTHERN PIKE, BLACK CRAPPIE, YELLOW BULLHEAD, WHITE SUCKER, AND HYBRID SUNFISH. BLUEGILL, YELLOW PERCH, WHITE CRAPPIE, BLACK BULLHEAD, CARP AND SNAPPING TURTLE WERE CAUGHT IN NUMBERS SIGNIFICANTLY BELOW THE LOCAL NET CATCH MEDIAN.

July 13, 1981COMPARED TO LOCAL MEDIANS, BLUEGILL, BLACK CRAPPIE HYBRID SUNFISH, PUMPKINSEED, BLACK BULLHEAD, YELLOW BULLHEAD, GREEN SUNFISH, AND NORTHERN PIKE ALL…

COMPARED TO LOCAL MEDIANS, BLUEGILL, BLACK CRAPPIE HYBRID SUNFISH, PUMPKINSEED, BLACK BULLHEAD, YELLOW BULLHEAD, GREEN SUNFISH, AND NORTHERN PIKE ALL SHOW POPULATION LEVELS CONSIDERED TO BE AVG. ONLY CARP SHOW LOW POPULATION LEVELS IN SIMILAR COMPARISON. NORTHERN PIKE WERE AGED AS II, III AND IV ANNULUS FISH. THE II ANNULUS FISH WERE THE MOST COMMON AND SHOWED GOOD GROWTH. THESE NORTHERN PIKE SEEM TO IDENTICAL IN AGE STRUCTURE TO THOSE FOUND IN SWEENEY LAKE. IT IS ASSUMED THAT THEY CAME FROM THE SAME SOURCE AND ENTERED SWEENEYS TWIN VIA THE CHANNEL. SEE SWEENEYS LAKE FOR FURTHER DISCUSSION AS TO SOURCE OF FISH. STATISTICALLY, A TRUE INCREASE IN NORTHERN PIKE LEVELS CAN BE SAID TO HAVE OCCURRED SINCE THE 1976 NETTING. LITTLE DIFFERENCE IS NOTED IN OTHER POPULATION LEVELS IN THE TWO NETTINGS EXCEPT THAT BLACK BULLHEAD WERE FOUND BY TRAPNETTING IN 1981 BUT NOT 1976. YELLOW PERCH WERE NOT TAKEN IN ANY GEAR IN EITHER NETTING
