The Lydiard Lake fish population is dominated by small black bullheads and black crappies. Each species was sampled in high numbers but smaller than average sizes. Bluegills were found in below average numbers. Their weight however was slightly above average. Over 50% of the bluegills were longer the 6.5 inches. Two attemps by the public to replenish the fish population through stocking have apparently failed. The return in the nets for bluegills and largemouth bass stocked in 1986 and 1993 was poor.

LARGEMOUTH BASS, GREEN SUNFISH, AND BLACK CRAPPIE WERE SAMPLED. BLACK CRAPPIES ARE ALL LARGE INDIVI- DUALS. NO YOUNG-OF-THE-YEAR FISH WERE SAMPLED. BLACK BULLHEADS WERE FOUND IN THE 1963 SURVEY AND ONLY LARGEMOUTH BASS AND BLACK CRAPPIE IN 1979, INDICATING A SEVERE WINTERKILL DURING THE INTERIM PERIOD. THE ABUNDANCE OF BASS AND CRAPPIES IS LOWER THAN IN 1979.

LM Bass & Blk Crappie were the only fish species taken. The catch of Bass in gillnets was similar to that found in the 1963 survey which at that time was good. Blk Bullhead were found in subs. numbers in 1963 but were not taken in 1979. A pos reason for this is that only one gillnet was set in 1979 which is not the most effective method of sampling Bullheads.
