Based on their respective local medians the present fish population status of Long Lake is as follows: The northern pike showed average population figures at 4.00 fish per set. Length frequency was from 17.0 to 25.9 inches and the mean weight was 2.17 pounds for all fish taken. The northern pike showed average growth rate at all annulus. The yellow perch was low at 7.75 per gillnet set and were of small size with a median length figure of 5.5 to 5.9 inches. The bluegill sunfish was extremely low at 2.00 per set while the pumpkinseed sunfish was slightly low at 3.25. The green sunfish and the bowfin showed average population figures while the hybrid sunfish, golden shiner and white sucker had slightly low populations. The black bullhead at 13.50 per trap net set was below the local median of 24.47 and length frequency ranged from 4.0 to 10.4 inches with 76% of fish measured 7.4 inches or less. A commercial fishery for bullheads is doubtful due to the small size. The yellow and brown bullhead and the carp had low population figures. NOTE: The black crappie was absent in the net catches in the 1986 survey - was present in the 1976 survey at 34.25 per set. The black bullhead declined from 158.75 per set in 1976 to 13.50 per set in 1986. Lake was opened to promiscuous fishing January 29, 1986 until February 15th and extended until February 28th. Fisheries personnel who posted the extension on February 15th observed bullheads and shiners coming up in fish house holes and some dead fish on the bottom.

When compared to their respective state medians, the northern pike, common sucker, yellow bullhead and pumpkinseed sunfish all had slightly high populations. The black bullhead was extremely high and the black crappie very high. The yellow perch was low, the bowfin slightly low and the bluegill extremely low. The pumpkinseed was slightly above the median figure while the carp was about average. The golden shiner had a high population.
