The fish community in Spear Lake has changed little since the last survey was done in 1987. In the absence of a major predator White Sucker and Yellow Perch densities remain fairly high. Brook Trout fingerlings were stocked in 1988, however; none of these fish were sampled in 1990 as the entire catch consisted of Age-1 fish. Natural reproduction apparently is sufficient to maintain a small population.

The lake has a maximum depth of only 4 feet, but because of numerous springs flowing into it, it doesn't freeze out. One Brook Trout was caught but there is no record of any being stocked. It is possible it may have migrated from Arrowhead Creek. White Sucker and Yellow Perch were sampled in numbers lower than the area average. Apparently both species are reproducing in the lake.
