Griddle Lake is located approximately 17 miles NE of Ely in the Superior National Forest. This small, remote lake is shallow with bog stained water. The surrounding shoreline is mostly bog with black spruce and tamarack commonly found. There is no designated public access present and the lake receives little use. No campsites were observed. The nearby BSA base maintains a trail system near the lake for hiking and cross country skiing. Two gill nets and three minnow traps were used to sampled fish. The gill nets were both empty and the minnow traps sampled 4 species of fish along with a crayfish. Northern redbelly dace were the most common fish specie sampled. Finescale dace and fathead minnow were found in lesser but equal relative abundances. Brook stickleback were also sampled in low numbers. Dace are often referred to as "rainbow chubs" in the bait industry.
