The northern pike population in Fourth McDougal Lake is average for the lake class. The size was small compared to fish sampled in similar lakes with northern pike averaging about 1 pound. The largest northern pike was 21.8 inches; the mean length was 17.4 inches. Yellow perch are present in low numbers; their size is above average. Public access to the lake is via the channel from North McDougal Lake (USFS concrete boat ramp); then through a narrow/shallow channel in the bog west of Fourth McDougal Lake. The channel is difficult to navigate even in a canoe.

Fourth McDougal Lake is a small lake that has never been stocked by the DNR. The fish population is maintained either by natural reproduction or migration from the McDougal Lakes chain via the outlet channel. Fish collected in the DNR test nets in 2000 were walleye, northern pike, yellow perch and white sucker.Walleye were sampled in below average numbers compared to other lakes in this class. The fish in this small sample ranged from 12.4 inches to 16.4 inches and averaged about one pound.Northern pike are fairly abundant but are small with the fish collected in nets averaging less than one pound. The largest northern pike observed during the survey was 1.7 pounds.Yellow perch were sampled in average numbers, but the catch included some quality size individuals. The yellow perch taken in the sample ranged from 7.1 inches to 12.6 inches with approximately 52% of the fish larger than 10 inches.
