Bear Lake, which frequently winterkills, was used for rearing walleyes (stocked as fry and harvested as fingerlings and yearlings) to meet statewide stocking quotas. Fish moved from one body of water to another must first be tested for disease. Three 3/8 inch trap nets were set overnight to collect yearling walleyes for testing. Fish lengths were estimated. The water temperature was 67 degrees F. Net catches were as follows: -41 yearling walleyes 11.5 inches -13.5 inches long were sampled. Other fish species data were not recorded. Occasionally, carryover (adult) walleyes provide fishing opportunity. Important! Fall 3/8 inch trap netting catch rates were not directly comparable to summer 3/4 inch trap netting catch rates which have standardized; net locations, sampling date, and mesh size.
