RICE LAKE IS A REGULAR WINTERKILL LAKE WHICH NORMA LLY WILL NOT OVERWINTER GAME FISH. NO FISH ARE ST OCKED IN RICE LAKE AND REPOPULATION OCCURS BY IMMI GRATION FROMTHE PLATTE RIVER. A NUMBER OF ADULT G AME FISH WERE CAPTURED DURING OUR ASSESSMENT, INCL UDING NORTHERN PIKE, ROCK BASS, AND WALLEYE. SMAL LMOUTH BASS, BLUEGILL AND PUMPKINSEED YOUNG-OF-THE YEAR WERE COLLECTED DURING SHORELINE SEINING. LOW TOTAL NUMBERS OF GAMEFISH CAPTURED DURING THIS AS SESSMENT PREVENTED MEANINGFUL COMPARISONS WITH LAK E CLASS AVERAGES. THE YELLOW PERCH, BROWN BULLHEA D, AND YELLOW BULLHEAD CATCH RATES AND MEAN SIZE W ERE CONSISTANT WITH LAKE CLASS AVERAGES. BOWFIN, COMMON CARP, WHITE SUCKER, SHORTHEAD REDHORSE, AND BROWN BULLHEAD WERE ALSO CAPTURED WITH GILLNETS A ND TRAPNETS. WHITE SUCKER YOY ALSO COLLECTED.

WALLEYE ARE PRESENT IN BELOW AVG NUMBER BUT ARE OF GOOD SIZE. RECRUITMENT WOULD APPEAR TO BE FROM PLATTE RIVER. YELLOW PERCH ARE OF AVERAGE SIZE AND NUMBERS. BULLHEADS ARE VERY NUMBEROUS AND GOOD SIZED. CARP NUMBERS ARE TWICE THE STATE AVERAGE.
