In August of 1989 a resurvey was done on Rock Lake. Two gill nets, four trap nets and shoreline seining were used to assess the current fish population. The last survey of this lake was done in 1960, so few comparisons will be made between the current and previous surveys. Based on local medians and other data, the status of the current fish population is as follows: Northern pike net catch (1.50/set) is near the local median. The length frequency distribution ranges from 11.0 to 28.9 inches for all nets, with a median length group of 21 to 21.9 inches. Mean weight is 2.32 pounds. The 11 fish aged ranged from age III to age VIII. Growth is slow. Black crappie net catch (13.25/set) is above the local median (5.75/set). The length frequency distribution ranges from 4.0 to 9.9 inches for all nets, with a median length group of 4.5 to 4.9 inches. Mean weight is 0.12 pounds. The 31 fish aged ranged from age I to age VII. Growth is slow after the first year. Black bullhead represented almost 70% by number of the fish sampled from this lake. A similar percentage was represented in the catch of the 1960 survey. Net catch in both gill nets and trap nets (56.00/set and 23.50/set) were higher than the respective local medians (6.50/set and 2.33/set). Length frequency distribution ranges from 3.5 to 8.9 inches, with a median length group of 6.5 to 6.9 inches. Mean weight is 0.16 pounds. Though not represented in the net catch in this or the previous survey, high numbers (350) of age 0+ bluegill sunfish were counted in shoreline seining. 62 pumpkinseed sunfish, which do occur in small numbers in the net catch, were also collected in shoreline seining. 180 spottail shiners were sampled during shoreline seining. White sucker and channel catfish were captured at levels near local medians. Common carp, pumpkinseed sunfish, and white crappie net catches were below local medians.
