Twin

Twin Lake does not appear to have winterkilled sevrely in the past five or more years. Thus, populations of several species offer angling opportunities to lake residents. However, there is no public access. Bluegill were the most abundant specices sample, but are small with an average size of 4.5 inches and fewer than 10% being over 6 inches. Low to moderate numbers of small (5 to 8 inch) black crappie are also present. Moderate numbers of northern pike were sampled with lengths ranging from 23 to 30 inches. Largemouth bass were also sampled, but not in high numbers. However, the sampling techniques used were not effective on bass, so numbers could be higher than sampling results indicate. Bass were small - lengths ranged from 5 to 9 inches. Low to moderate numbers of yellow perch, hybrid sunfish, pumpkinseed, and green sunfish are also present, but are generally small.

BLB AND BLC WERE FOUND AT BELOW LOCAL MEDIAN ABUNDANCE. GOS, BLG, AND YEP WERE SAMPLED AT NEAR MEDIAN LEVELS IN TRAPNETS. NOP, BRB, HSF, GSF, AND PMK WERE SAMPLED AT ABOVE LOCAL MEDIAN ABUNDANCE. LMB ARE PRESENT, AND NATURAL REPRODUCTION WAS VERIFIED BY SHORELINE SEINING. NOP SHOWED AN INCREASE IN ABUNDANCE FROM 1986, AND FOUR YEAR CLASSES WERE REPRESENTED DESPITE RECENT DROUGHT CONDITIONS SINCE 1988. BLG SAMPLED HAD A PSD OF 96.6. BLGS WERE FOUND AT VERY LOW ABUNDANCE IN 1981, AND NONE WERE SAMPLED IN 1986.

PERIODIC WINTERKILL CONDITIONS LIMIT NUMBER OF GAME FISH SPECIES NORTHERN PIKE NUMBERS ARE VERY LOW PER GILLNET SET AS IS SIZE. 1 AND 0.2 RESPEC- TIVELY. CENTRARCHIDS ALSO LACK IN SIZE OR ABUN- DANCE WITH BLUEGILLS ABSENT FROM NETS IN 1986 SUR- VEY. YELLOW PERCH POPULATION APPEAR HIGH AS NET CATFCH INDICES SHOW CATCH PER EFFORT, ALMOST 6 TIMES STATE WIDE MEDIAN. BOTH SPECIES OF BULLHEAD BLACK AND BROWN, ARE RELATIVELY LOW AS COMPARED TO LOCAL STATEWIDE MEDIANS.
