Horseshoe is a small, shallow and heavily vegetated lake located 8 miles north of Duluth, Minnesota. Most of the lake is 5 feet deep or less and periodically winter kills. Typical of winter kill lakes, black bullhead, yellow perch and white sucker dominate the fish community. The 1997 survey found the above species in moderate numbers with none of the fish aged over three years old. Additional species seen in low numbers were: pumpkinseed, golden shiner, black bullhead and walleye.
