Results from the 2000 lake survey indicate that Thompson Lake is currently comprised of northern pike, yellow perch, black crappie, pumpkinseed sunfish, and black bullhead. There is no established boat access but walk-in access can be gained through county tax forfeit land on the south side of the lake. Thompson Lake is shallow, very weedy, and has historically had low winter oxygen levels. The best angling opportunities exist for northern pike and black crappie. Northern pike numbers are average compared to other lakes throughout the state with similar physical and chemical characteristics. Northern pike size is probably slightly better than average and several fish over 30 inches were captured. Black crappie numbers were slightly above average and sizes were favorable with several fish over 9 inches sampled.
