Little Cedar Island Lake is only assessed with trap nets during surveys. Few fish were sampled in any trap nets, but with a direct attachment to Cedar Island Lake this low catch was not of great concern. Cooler temperatures during sampling may have been a factor in the reduced catch in trap nets. Important species caught in trap nets included: bluegill (1.8/lift), black crappie (3.5/lift), walleye (0.5/lift), white sucker (1.5/lift), black bullhead (0.3/lift), golden shiner (2.3/lift), common carp (0.5/lift) and yellow bullhead (0.3/lift). The catch rate of golden shiner was above the third quartile for lake class 36, while the catch rates of bluegill, black bullhead and yellow bullhead fell below expected levels for this lake type. The catch rates of white sucker, black crappie, common carp, and walleye were within expected levels for this lake class. The trap net catch rate of bluegill appeared to decline from the 1990 survey (55.0/lift) and fell below expected levels for this lake class. The average weight of bluegill sampled (0.1 pounds) appeared to decline from the 1990 survey (0.2 pounds) but remained within expected levels for this lake class. Bluegill caught ranged in size from 3.5-7.9 inches and averaged 5.4 inches in length. The catch rate of black crappie did not appear to change from the 1990 survey (6.5/lift) but fell below the third quartile value for this lake type. Black crappie caught ranged in size from 6.1-10.5 inches and averaged 7.5 inches in length. The mean weight of black crappie caught (0.2 pounds) did not appear to change from the last survey and remained within expected levels for lake class 36. The catch rate of walleye in trap nets appeared to increase from the previous survey when no fish were sampled. Both fish sampled were between 13 and 15 inches and appeared to originate from the 1993 stocking. The mean weight of walleye sampled was 0.9 pounds, which was small for this lake class. The trap net catch rate of yellow bullhead appeared to decline from the 1990 survey (15.75/lift) and fell to below the first quartile for this lake type. The average size of yellow bullhead caught (0.9 pounds) did not appear to change from the 1990 survey and remained large for this lake type. The trap net catch rates of common carp and white sucker did not appear to change from the 1990 survey and remained near expected levels for lake class 36. Carp sampled in trap nets averaged 28.4 inches and 10.1 pounds, which was large for lake class 36. White sucker caught in trap nets averaged 19.3 inches and 2.7 pounds, which fell within expected levels for this lake class.
