The Swift County Kids Pond is a 7-acre, former gravel pit located 2.5 miles northeast of Appleton, southwest of the intersection of 200th and 60th avenues. The pond and surrounding land will become part of the Swift County Parks system in summer 2025. Ample shore fishing access is present. The fishery will be supplemented by stocking gamefish when needed. This initial survey was conducted during July 2024 to determine the species composition and size structure of the existing fish community. The pond is connected to the Pomme de Terre River and numerous fish species were present, including black crappie, bluegill, green sunfish, largemouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. Nearly all the fish caught were small and few larger fish appeared to be present. DNR Fisheries will work to increase the number of adult game fish in the coming years.
