Special Problems and Conditions with Fish & Fishing: Stunted sunfish.Present Fish Population: Northern pike, yellow bullhead and bluegill indicated high populations, pumpkinseed and largemouth bass indicated average populations and white sucker, black crappie, walleye and yellow perch indicated low populations when compared to ranges around the regional median.Three gill nets and four trap nets were set in July 1981 and July 1986. Based on catches from these nets the northern pike and walleye population have remained the same while the yellow perch and bluegill populations have dropped, although the bluegill population is still high.Northern pike ages showed II-IV and VII year age classes were present. The III year age class was most dominant with 52% (14 of 27) of the fish. Individual lengths varied from 15 to 29.9 inches with most between 17 and 20 inches. Growth rates are slow compared to statewide averages. The yellow perch population has dropped from 4/gillnet in 1981 to .66/gillnet in 1986. The walleye population has remained the same with only one fish taken in each survey. The bluegill population has dropped from 276/trapnet in 1981 to 64.5/trapnet in 1986. Age classes IV-IX were represented. All indicated very slow growth rates and shows a stunted population.Yellow bullheads were very abundant (76/gillnet) with small individual size evident (approximately 9/lb). Most were between5.0" and 7.4" (93 of 105). Pumpkinseeds ranged in size 3-6.9 inches with most in the 6" category. Largemouth bass taken were in the 6-8 inch length range but the lake is known to have some large fish present.

Present northern pike population is composed of mainly two and three year olds with abundance about twice the local average, but size and growth rate a little below average. Bluegills are ten times local average but are very small and stunted. Yellow bullheads were very abundant and small. Largemouth bass are present in moderate numbers. Black crappie and yellow perch present but in low numbers.
