Long Lake is in class 25 of the MN DNR lake classification system. Other area lakes in this class include: Beers, Franklin, Heilberger and Swan. Rainbow trout, which were stocked in 1986 by the Otter Tail Rod and Gun Club, were not sampled. The northern pike gill net catch rate was 2.3 per net, which is within the normal range for this lake class. The average individual weight of pike was 2.4 pounds. Consistent reproduction is evident as five consecutive year classes were represented in the sample. Yellow bullhead abundance was 28.0 per net, which exceeds the normal range. Bluegill abundance was 61.8 per net, which exceeds the normal range. Bluegill size structure is poor as only 13% of the bluegills measured were greater than seven inches in length. Bluegill recruitment appears consistent as seven consecutive year classes were represented in the sample. Growth rates are slow compared to statewide means. Largemouth bass recruitment also appears consistent as five consecutive year classes were represented in the sample. Growth rates are slow compared to statewide means. Yellow perch were not sampled and two walleyes were sampled in the gill nets, both of which exceeded 20.0 inches in length.
