The fish population in West Boot Lake was low in number. Black and yellow bullhead were present in moderate numbers with good average size. Black crappie and pumpkinseed were the most abundant panfish species present with most small in size. Northern pike were present in low numbers with some larger fish. Small numbers of largemouth bass, hybrid sunfish, yellow perch, and golden shiner were sampled.

STATUS OF THE FISHERY: The fish population of West Boot Lake is dominated by small bullheads, small blackcrappie and small to average size northern pike. The small size of the fish is a result of a winterkill thatoccurred in the winter of 1989-1990. One larger crappie and some average (2 lb each) northern pike were the onlyfish sampled that would interest most anglers. Winterkill events and the lack of a designated public access continue to be the major factors limitingfishing on this lake.

SPECIES PRESENT WERE NORTHERN PIKE, BLACK AND YELLOW BULLHEADS, PUMPKINSEED, BLUEGILL AND BLACK CRAPPIE. THE NORTHERN PIKE CATCH WAS TWICE THE LOCAL MEDIAN CATCH RATE AND CONSITED OF AGE II AND III FISH, RANGLING IN SIZE FROM 16 TO 24 INCHES AND EXHIBITING FAIRLY FAST GROWTH RATES. THE BLUEGILL CATCH WAS 2.5X THE LMCR AND RANGED FROM 3.5 TO 7.5 INCHES; PSD = 22%. PUMPKINSEED AND BLACK CRAPPIE WERE RARE AND WERE NOT CAPTURED IN SURVEY NETS.
