No year classes beyond 1979 were present indicating limited natural reproduction.Bluegill - Trapnet catches are lower than 1969 survey while the average size of a bluegill is the same. All size classes up to 8 inches present.Smallmouth Bass - Net catches of smallmouth bass were high and the average weight of a fish was 1.8 pounds. All recent year classes were represented except for 1981 indicating excellent natural reproduction.Largemouth Bass - Length frequency indicates good natural reproduction.Walleye - The gillnet catch of walleye were made up of primarily fish greater than 19 inches in length. Stocking records indicate that no recent walleye stocking has taken place in Hunter Lake. Lakeshore owners stocked 1000 fingerlings by permit during fall of 1987.

Has been a good lake for large and smallmouth bass and no stocking has been done.Has been good fishing for crappie, small and largemouth bass but has declined in walleye success. Three years ago and more, walleye success was good but has dropped off. Crappie fishing was also much better in the past.

Management Policy: Since smallmouth bass are present in relatively abundant numbers, and since their growth rate is satisfactory, Hunter Lake should be considered as best suited for this species of fish.Physical Improvements: None at this time.Control of Fish Population: Although the shoreline seinging revealed a very successful survial of YOY and yearling perch, this same abundance was not reflected in the older age classes of this fish, as taken in the gillnets. Unless it can be shown that the presence of an over abundance of perch is harmful to the other species in the lake, no removal operations appear necesssary at this time.A sufficiently high population of smallmouth bass appears to be present in Hunter Lake at the present time. No stocking of this species is recommended for the present. The stocking of other species of fish is not recommended. No special regulations are necessary at present.
