June 22, 1992THE NORTHERN PIKE GILLNET CPUE OF 2.5 FELL BELOW THE FIRST QUARTILE VALUE (3.00) FOR LAKE CLASS 28. A TOTAL OF 7 NORTHERN PIKE WERE CAUGHT, INCLUDING…
THE NORTHERN PIKE GILLNET CPUE OF 2.5 FELL BELOW THE FIRST QUARTILE VALUE (3.00) FOR LAKE CLASS 28. A TOTAL OF 7 NORTHERN PIKE WERE CAUGHT, INCLUDING 2 FROM TRAPNETS. THESE FISH RANGED IN LENGTH FROM 15.0-26.9 INCHES, WITH A MEAN LENGTH OF 20.4 INCHES AND A MEAN WEIGHT OF 2.0 POUNDS. GROWTH WAS TYPICAL OF OTHER AREA LAKES. AN AGE 3 NORTHERN PIKE WAS 20.3 INCHES IN LENGTH.THE ONLY CENTRARCHID CAPTURED WERE PUMPKINSEED (10.8 TRAPNET CPUE). THIS CATCH RATE IS ABOVE THE THIRD QUARTILE VALUE (6.94). WHEN LOOKING AT TYPICAL FISH COMMUNITY ASSEMBLAGES IN LAKE CLASS 28, OTHER CENTRARCHID SUCH AS LARGEMOUTH BASS, BLUEGILL AND BLACK CRAPPIE HAVE BEEN WELL REPRESENTED. THE PUMPKINSEED WERE GENERALLY SMALL, WITH THE MODAL LENGTH GROUP OF ONLY 3.5-3.9 INCHES. THE PSD VALUE WAS ONLY 1.YELLOW PERCH WERE THE MAIN FUSIFORM FORAGE FISH AVAILABLE, WITH A GILLNET CPUE OF 8.0/LIFT, WHICH IS EQUAL TO THE MEDIAN FOR THIS LAKE CLASS. THESE FISH RANGED IN LENGTH FROM 4.5-10.4 INCHES, WITH A MODAL LENGTH GROUP OF 6.5-6.9 INCHES.BLACK BULLHEAD DOMINATED THE GILLNET CATCH, BOTH IN NUMBERS (80%) AND IN POUNDS (45%). THE CPUE IN THE GILLNET FOR BLACK BULLHEAD WAS 63.5 AND WAS FOUR TIMES HIGHER THAN THE THIRD QUARTILE VALUE FOR THIS LAKE CLASS. THESE FISH WERE GENERALLY SMALL, WITH A MODAL LENGTH GROUP OF 5.5-5.9 INCHES AND NO BLACK BULLHEAD LONGER THAN 7.4 INCHES.BROWN BULLHEAD WERE ALSO SAMPLED DURING THIS SURVEY.
