Cut Lake is a small 36 acre lake located in the Foothills State Forest 11 miles northwest of Pine River in Cass County. A small access in located on the southeastern shore. The entire shoreline is publicly owned by Cass County. Cut is 40' feet deep with 64% of the lake 15' deep or less. Water clarity was good with a secchi disk reading of 14.0'. Cut has soft water and the low productivity limits fish production. A survey of the fish community in Cut Lake was conducted in mid-August 2024. One gill net and four trap nets were set. The fish community sampled on Cut was simple consisting of just 5 species: Brown Bullhead, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Pumpkinseed and Yellow Perch. Northern Pike size structure was poor, with an average of 19" and no fish over 22" sampled. A fishable population of Largemouth Bass exists with fish ranging from 5" to 14". Pumpkinseed and Yellow Perch were also sampled in low numbers.
