Gun Club, also called Lions Park Pond, is an 8-acre pond in the heart of Inver Grove Heights. Gun Club has a simple fish community consisting of Black Bullhead, Black Crappie, Bluegill, Channel Catfish, Pumpkinseed Sunfish and Largemouth Bass. Large Bluegills (7-9 inches) are regularly stocked in the fall. In 2007, Gun Club was part of a Bluegill tagging study looking at harvest and exploitation rates of large fall-stocked Bluegills. Five Largemouth Bass, averaging approximately 5.51 inches, were collected by trap netting. Typically Largemouth Bass do not sample well in trap nets and this abundance is high for lakes such as Gun Club. Bluegill trap net catches (70.8/net) primarily consisted of small (average length=4.79 in.) fish. Of the 354 Bluegills captured in trap nets, only one fish over 6.0 inches was observed and the population is considered stunted by most measures. Although Black Crappie trap net catches are relatively high (40.0/trap net), no fish over 10.0 inches were sampled, and 7% of the Black Crappies were 9.50 to 9.99 inches in length. Of the 14 Black Bullheads sampled none exceeded ten inches. Over 1,000 Channel Catfish have been stocked over the last two years (2012 and 2013) and these fish should be ready for harvest in the next few years. The pier on the east side of pond provides a good place to cast and catch Black Crappie, Bluegill or Channel Catfish.

Gun Club, also called Lions Park, is a 4-acre pond in the heart of Inver Grove Heights. Gun Club has a simple fish community consisting of black bullhead, black crappie, bluegill, and largemouth bass. Large bluegills (8-9 inches) are regularly stocked in the fall. In 2007, Gun Club was part of a bluegill tagging study looking at harvest and exploitation rates of large fall-stocked bluegills. Seven bass, averaging approximately 12.0 inches, were collected by daytime electrofishing. Bluegill trap net catches (27.8/net) primarily consisted of small (average length=3.7 in.) fish. Of the 138 bluegills captured in trap nets, approximately 98% were below 6.0 inches. Additionally, three large, floy-tagged bluegills from the 2007 fall stocking were also sampled. Although black crappie trap net catches were relatively low (3.4/trap net), two fish over 10.0 inches were sampled. Of the fourteen black bullheads sampled, two exceeded ten inches. The pier on the east side of pond provides a good place to cast and catch a nice bass or bluegill.
